Day 6-A Day in My Huaraches

Day 6-A Day in My Huaraches

I am wearing a black Greylin dress with huaraches from Oscar Elegantes from Santa Maria del Rio, San Luis Potosí. These huaraches have walked gazillions of miles.  They were purchased by my dad on a summer vacation when I was in 7th grade. We were visiting the town of Santa Maria del Rio, not too far from our hometown in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The town is known for its silk rebosos, it's a perfect little place. It is also where I tried Bacardi pineapple ice cream for the first time (yes, I had a second encounter with Bacardi pineapple ice cream in México years later--a story for another day).

I love feeling like the clothes I own were destined for me. These shoes were the last of my size. I have a very small foot and rarely fit into adult size shoes. When I saw them, I knew I had to get them. My grandma (dad's mom) happened to be with us on this excursion. She and I have the same size foot. She said she wanted the shoes as well, and cried almost immediately.  I said "too bad, so sad, I saw them first." I skipped away into the sunset wearing my brand new huaraches. The end.

love,

A
